This fine quality George III flame mahogany eight-day longcase clock was crafted by Handley & Moore of London, dating to circa 1810. The high quality “Gentleman’s Library” style case is veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany of excellent colour and patination, constructed on a solid oak carcass for lasting durability.

The break arch hood is surmounted with its original shaped pediment and cast brass ball finial, complemented by canted, stop-fluted corners with brass reeding. A convex circular glass, bound with a cast brass bezel, sits above hood sides featuring circular glass viewing windows. The razor edge moulded long trunk door showcases choice curled mahogany veneers, flanked by canted corners with brass reeded inlay, terminating in quarter turned cast brass capitals.

The 12-inch convex circular white enamelled dial is signed Handley & Moore, Clerkenwell, London, featuring a Roman numeral chapter ring and an unusual concentric sweeping calendar with original gilt brass indicating hand — a distinctive and rare feature. The fully restored eight-day movement features shaped plates united by five knopped pillars, an anchor escapement, and strikes the hours on a single bell, stamped to the frontplate by the makers.

Complete with original brass cased weights and a heavy brass bob pendulum with engraved calibration, this clock represents a beautiful example of Georgian craftsmanship in excellent original condition, with the movement expertly restored by a qualified horologist.
