This truly exquisite mahogany longcase musical clock is in superb condition and exceptional quality throughout. For a tube chiming clock, it boasts wonderfully small proportions, offering a choice of two tunes — Westminster or Whittington — selectable via a lever positioned at the “III,” alongside options for “SILENT” or “STRIKE & CHIME.” The movement is of outstanding quality, and in addition to its musical function, the clock features maintaining power, allowing it to continue running even while being wound — a rare and impressive feature reflecting its fine craftsmanship.
The hood features elegant swan necks with an arched moulded cornice, finished with turned pateras, while Corinthian columns terminating in brass capitals flank the hood door. Fretted panels lined in fabric sit to the sides of the hood, allowing the chimes to resonate beautifully from within the case. The trunk showcases a full-length shaped door with a working lock and key, flanked by quarter reeded columns, while the base features a lovely inset panel and shapely bracket feet.
The eight-day movement chimes the hours and plays either Westminster or Whittington chimes on the quarter hours, building progressively through the hour before striking. The dial is a genuine work of art, featuring a silvered chapter ring with large Roman numerals, smaller Arabic numerals, Maiden head spandrels at each corner, and intricately engraved detailing throughout. Recently professionally cleaned and serviced, this clock is in perfect working order and ready to take pride of place in any home.
