This fine quality Regency flame mahogany eight-day longcase clock was crafted by Thomas Wightman of St Martins Lane, London, dating to circa 1810s. The small-sized, high quality case is veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany, constructed on a solid oak carcass for lasting stability and strength.

The brass inlaid, lancet arch hood features a convex circular glass bound with a locking cast brass bezel, while the hood sides showcase circular fretted cast brass with red silk lined sound frets. The lancet topped long trunk door displays choice curled mahogany veneers, flanked by quarter reeded columns terminating in brass capitals, all sitting above a raised moulded panel effect base with skirted plinth and pad feet.

The convex circular white enamelled dial features a Roman numeral chapter ring, signed to the centre “Thos Wightman, St Martins Lane, London.” The fully restored, high quality eight-day movement features shaped and shouldered plates united by five knopped pillars, an anchor escapement, pin crutch, and strikes the hours on a single bell, complete with a strike/strike silent facility located above the XII — a beautifully executed example of fine London clockmaking.

Complete with original brass cased weights, a heavy brass bob pendulum with steel strap, and fine quality original blued steel serpentine spade hands, this stylish, well-proportioned case is presented in excellent original condition with wonderful colour and patination throughout.
