This is Gothic Revival design at its most decorative and confident. The paired trefoil-arched form, reminiscent of medieval tracery, sets the tone, evoking the soaring windows of the medieval church that so captivated the Victorian imagination. Within that framework, vibrant slag and stained glass in green, purple, blue and amber are worked into foliate and geometric motifs, framed by colonettes and given depth and movement by the natural variation of the slag glass. The whole panel is secured within a carved wood frame that carries the same trefoil design, so the timber and glass reinforce one another — a combination that showcases the fine craftsmanship typical of the period around 1890. Substantial in scale and full of character, the window remains in good original condition, the polychrome glass and lead joins consistent with its late 19th-century origins.
