This imposing, decorative full-size Louis XVI style 12ft x 6ft mahogany billiard and snooker table was crafted from Cuban mahogany and features tasteful carved detailing throughout the frame, legs, and cushion friezes. Made by the renowned table maker John Thurston in 1894 for a client in Guildford, Surrey, no expense was spared on the timber, construction, or build — a fact confirmed by a surviving copy of the original invoice, which specifies the Louis XVI design. Each carved leg is fitted with an ornate panel, echoed along the cushion edges by smaller carved bosses, while an egg-and-dart bead motif runs along the top and bottom edges throughout. The mahogany cushions are a special-order design known as “The Adamant Cushion,” with a slate section inserted into the inside edge of each cushion for optimal playing conditions, improved sturdiness, and enhanced ball response. The side and end frames are further embellished with carved shells and swags of exceptionally high quality, making this a tremendous and historically significant table for serious collectors or dedicated games rooms.
