A very pretty French ebonised and parcel-gilt love seat, dating from 1880, in the Louis XVI neoclassical style. The ebonised frame is beautifully detailed with gilt: a carved giltwood floral crest tops the oval medallion back, gilt-anthemion and acanthus carving sweeps down the arm supports, and gilt rosette-carved blocks sit above turned, fluted and tapering front legs. It stands on its original brass castors. Recently recovered in a stunning embroidered silk, the oval back panel frames a richly coloured floral bouquet — roses, peonies and blooms in pink, purple and cream amid scrolling gilt foliage — while the seat and padded arms are worked in a cream silk lattice with delicate embroidered detail. The frame is solid and in original condition. An elegant and decorative piece, ideal for a bedroom, boudoir or refined drawing room.
