Everything around it flows: the jambs curve softly to frame the generous opening, and a deep, moulded shelf crowns the surround with both balance and grandeur. Carved from statuary marble with subtle veining and a smooth finish, the fireplace has the substantial proportions and ornate detail that define the French Rococo revival. In excellent condition, the carving crisp and the surface well preserved, it offers both decorative presence and practical function — suited to a traditional French interior, a refined period home, or a striking contrast in a contemporary setting.
