An imposing antique Continental four-poster bed in solid oak, in the French Renaissance Revival (Henri II) taste and dating to circa 1880. The style was at the height of fashion in France in the second half of the 19th century, and this is a fine example of it: tall barley-twist spiral posts rise to a deeply carved canopy frieze, while the head- and footboards are richly worked with strapwork, foliate scrolls and an armorial crest beneath a coronet — the kind of grand heraldic detail that defines the period. The whole frame stands on substantial bun feet, and virtually every surface has been expertly carved. A commanding, opulent centrepiece that brings genuine 19th-century European craftsmanship to the bedroom.

Dimensions:
Overall: 166 cm wide × 230 cm long × 270 cm tall
To accommodate a South African Queen mattress (152 cm × 188 cm)
Dimensions are approximate.
