A beautiful original Art Deco dining room set from France, circa 1930, comprising an expandable table and eight chairs in Macassar ebony veneer with a lacquer finish — a confident expression of the era when French design led the world in luxury and craftsmanship. The extending table is veneered in striped Macassar ebony, prized between the wars for its dramatic dark figure, and finished in high-gloss clear and black piano lacquer built up and polished to a deep, mirror-like shine. It is raised on two sculptural vase-shaped Macassar legs that stand on a solid black base, giving the table a strong architectural presence. The top extends on two sides with black lacquer inlay leaves, taking it from an intimate setting to a generous eight-seater. The matching chairs continue the theme, veneered in Macassar across the backboard with black piano lacquer to the frame and backs, and have been reupholstered in a dark grey quilted fabric with keder that sets off the gloss of the lacquer beautifully. A striking, usable suite for a formal dining room or a design-led interior.

Dimensions — Table:
Height: 75 cm (29.5″)
Length: 160 cm + 2 × 46 cm = 252 cm (63″–99.2″)
Depth: 100 cm (39.37″)
Apron height (leg space): 65 cm (25.6″)

Dimensions — Chairs:
Height: 88 cm (34.64″)
