  1. This Louis XV style bombé bureau is a lovely small writing desk with plenty of quality packed into a 28″ width. The fall opens to a leather writing surface and a neat fitted interior of a shelf and three shaped-front drawers in highly figured burr elm; the burr elm base of the interior even slides aside to reach the storage below. What sets it apart is the parquetry — contrasting mahogany and rosewood with inlaid stringing across the top, front and sides — complemented by good brass mounts at the corners and front leg tops, and a brass escutcheon and handles within. The shaped apron and slim curving legs with brass-mounted feet complete an elegant piece. Excellent colour and condition; key supplied.

The chair pictured is included with the bureau. A Regency-style caned chair, it has a shaped, open back with turned uprights and gilt-decorated panels, a woven cane seat, and splayed sabre legs front and rear — comfortable, light to move, and a charming addition to the writing desk.

Dimensions:
Width: 28″ (71.1 cm)
Height: 35″ (88.9 cm)
Depth: 17″ (43.2 cm)
Period: Mid 20th Century
