Ebonised furniture lives or dies on its detail, and this 19th century French credenza has it in spades. The marquetry inlay reads beautifully against the black ground, the ormolu trim catches the light, and the whole thing is balanced across three doors. Dating to circa 1860, it has survived in superbly detailed condition. Long and relatively shallow, it suits a hallway or dining wall where a deeper piece wouldn’t fit.
