An exceptional early 19th-century Scottish longcase clock in richly figured mahogany, signed Jn Adamson, Anstruther — a recorded East Neuk maker listed in Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Scotland. The clock presents beautifully, its well-proportioned mahogany case showing deep graining and a warm, rich colour. The hood is crowned with carved cresting and turned finials, framing an elegant silvered dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and a date aperture, the hands finely pierced in the manner typical of the period. Importantly, it is fitted with a dead-beat escapement — a feature most often associated with higher-quality longcase clocks and favoured by the better 19th-century makers. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced, and the clock is in excellent working order. A very attractive and well-made East Neuk example, combining fine casework, a clean and readable dial, and a technically superior movement.
